Founded in 1879, Aberlour doubled its production capacity in 1973, moving from two to four stills. A year later, the distillery joined the Pernod Ricard group. In response to ever-increasing demand, an ambitious expansion project to double its production capacity once again was unveiled in spring 2022. This outstanding version was matured in a first-fill bourbon cask and embodies the wonderfully malty and fruity style so characteristic of Speyside’s greatest single malts.
NOSE: Refined, complex. On the first nose, notes of cut hay appear alongside vanilla, candied lemon and William’s pear. Allowed to breathe, a fine layer of liquorice, noble spices (cardamom, clove), white florals (lily of the valley, lilac) and coconut milk enrich the aroma palette.
PALATE: Clean, elegant. The exotic (pineapple, kiwi, banana) and mineral (chalk) attack help highlight medicinal (ointment) and mentholated notes. The rich mid-palate returns creamily to the vanilla notes found on the nose (flan, cream). The end of the palate is smoothly liquorice (stick).
OVERALL: Long, serene. Maintaining a few medicinal touches, the start of the finish is wonderfully malty. Keeping that same lovely vegetal aspect, the after-taste reveals abundant aromatic plants (rosemary, savory, sage). At the end of the finish, fresh fruits (apple, pear) release a sweet and tangy juice onto the palate.
