LMDW Exclusive

In his book The World Atlas of Whisky, Dave Broom described Glenfarclas as "having a feeling of performance", reminding us that this iconic Speyside distilleryhas been owned by the Grant family since 1865. After the incredible 2011 vintage featured in LMDW 2022 Catalogue, this version distilled in 2012 and also matured in a sherry cask stands out for its stripped-back classicism, minerality and fruity exuberance.

COLOUR: Burnished gold with glints of topaz.

NOSE: Heady, deep. At once candied (lemon), chocolatey, spicy (ginger, clove), nobly woody (beeswax), roasted (coffee) and floral (iris, lily), the first nose is particularly complex and intense. Allowed to breathe, orange, William’s pear, medlar, apricot and Mirabelle plum highlight a diverse and precise fruitiness. Next, exotic tones gradually bring lots of shine and exuberance to the aroma palette.

PALATE: Firm, full of energy. The truly elegant attack reveals a very delicate texture. In particular it showcases an abundantly fruity (William’s pear), mentholated and floral (lime blossom) spirit. The mid-palate is then deliciously toasted (grilled bread), spicy (gentian root) and delicately chocolatey (cocoa bean) Later, rancio flavours (apricot, brandied cherries) and various plant infusions (verbena, sage) highlight the remarkably well-integrated and well-structured wood

FINISH: Long, silky. The delicately tannic start of the finish (grape skin) also reveals a host of black fruits (bramble, blueberry, cherry) as well as more exotic notes (very ripe banana, pineapple). The more tangy end of the palate (grapefruit, lemon) demonstrates a truly incredible freshness, minerality and salinity. On the retro-nasal olfaction, a chocolatey yet fruity rancio appears alongside enchanting heady flavours (iris, geranium). The empty glass releases spicy, liquorice and terpenic (turpentine) aromas.
