Andrew Symington, founder of the renowned independent bottler Signatory Vintage, has also been the director of the Edradour distillery since 2002. Established in 1825 under the name Glenforres by farmers in the region of Perth, the distillery will turn 200 this year. To mark this anniversary, the independent bottler has created a duo dedicated to the distillery's two single malts Edradour and Ballechin. Underscored by a perfectly integrated wood, this particularly sunny bottling reveals an incredibly mature expression throughout the tasting. A true basketful of fruits, the palette of flavours and aromas is also peppered with wonderfully fresh tangy sequences.
COLOUR: copper with orange tinges.
NOSE: full, rich. With subtle malt and summer notes, the aroma palette is wonderfully mature (cut hay, straw). Allowed to breathe, a lovely rancio takes shape and dried apricot, leather, chocolate, toasted almond and turmeric elegantly fill the air.
PALATE: lively yet creamy. Opening on a combination of candied lemon and vanilla, the palate quickly reveals more tropical nuances (guava, persimmon) as well as the praline and malt found on the first nose. Complex, it lingers on notes of orange zest, quince jelly, wild strawberry and pipe tobacco.
FINISH: full, deep. The finish is very concentrated, with delicious powdered notes of cocoa and grated ginger, spices (cumin, garam masala), creamy rice pudding and rich porridge. With time, refined menthol flavours bring freshness and charm to the retro-nasal olfaction, alongside fruit (ripe banana, candied pineapple) and resin (pine, liquorice stick).
