A part of Brown Forman since 2016 (also the owner of Jack Daniel’s), the GlenDronach distillery is equipped with nine larch washbacks, two 13,500-litre wash stills and two 6,800-litre spirit stills. After the 1993 single casks #7274 and #7099 featured in the À La Conquête des Origines and Antipodes collections, this 1994 distillation boasts an extraordinarily expressive power and energy, as reflected in its memorable chocolate flavours.
NOSE: Rich, unctuous. With incredible fruity freshness (orange, mango), the nose takes us into a heady universe dominated by precious wood, polish, wax and varnish. Allowed to breathe, liquorice and chocolate rival the intensity of voluptuous fragrances of blood orange and apricot.
PALATE: Clean, full of energy. The outstandingly well-balanced attack becomes salty, fruity (mandarin flesh), spicy (star anise, cardamom) and liquoricey (stick). The tertiary (porcini mushroom) and tarry mid-palate is infused with verbena, thyme and sage.
OVERALL: Long, silky. Coated in a fine layer of salted butter caramel, the start of the finish is mineral (slate), herbal (clover) and empyreumatic (pipe tobacco). In the after-taste, red and black fruits (strawberry, raspberry, bramble, blackcurrant) highlight its incredible complexity.
